SPARK PLUG CHANGE

(project by Jan Willem)

PARTS TOOLS

New set of sparkplugs (type: see car manual, NGK BKR6EKC)

Allen key

Screwdriver (I think itıs called a torx screwdriver? T30), pipewrench ? for plugs, size 5/8" (approx 16 mm)

The pipewrench for the plugs needs to be long and thin, otherwise you will not be able to reach the plugs. My wrench has an outside diameter of approx 21 mm, and lengt of approx 29 cm (see pic "tools" )

WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO

STEP

ACTION
1

Remove the cover plate. (6 screws + 2 allen key bolts near filler cap)

2

Unscrew bots holding ignition coils in place (2 bolts/coil)

3

Pull out the coils

4
Make sure there is no dirt in the holes where the sparkplugs are (if necessary, use compressed air to blow clean)
5

Unscrew the old sparkplug. Tip: When the plug is unscrewed, you can use the coil with rubber attachment to withdraw the old sparkplug.

6
Put the new sparkplug in the rubber piece of the coil and insert new plug one or 2 turns into engine.
7
Withdraw coil and use pipewrench to screw in the new plug. Tighten down well, but donıt exert too much force.
8
Repeat steps 2 through 7 for remaining 3 plugs
9

Here you can see the difference between an old (top) and new (bottom) plug.

10
Re-insert all the coils, and screw down with the bolts. Be very carefull not to exert too much force here, as the bolts are directly tapped into the aluminium head, and it is easy to damage to thread.
11

Fix the coverplate in place again. Donıt forget to first chech if the rubber O-ring around the fillercap opening is in place.
