When one thinks of 'hot hatches', then the first
thing that comes to mind are the Volkswagen GTi and the
(European) Ford Escort XR3i.
But also Fiat has made an array of very fast small
hatchbacks aswell: the Uno (Model 146), Tipo (160) and their
replacement: the Punto (176).
Both the Uno and Punto were equiped with a 1.4 liter Turbo engine (112bhp), capable of 200+ km/h (124 Mph), while the Tipo got a 2 liter 16-valve (sedici-valvole) engine (146bhp), which ran a healthy 207 km/h.
Fun-fact: the Tipo was initially to be called "Tipo." (Tipo-punto, literally: Type-dot). But nobody seemed to notice the little dot on the name-tag! Fiat got even by releasing project "Tipo B" as "Punto".
